Upholstery vs. reupholstery.

Upholstery is the covering, padding and related work that finishes furniture. Reupholstery renews that work on furniture you already own. Commercial upholstery can describe both services; here, we separate new projects from renewal so you can choose the right scope.

New upholstery

Start with a new design or an unfinished frame. Specify the dimensions, cushioning, material and finish before fabrication.

Reupholstery

Start with existing furniture. Assess the covers, foam and structure, then agree what will be retained, repaired or renewed.

Furniture refurbishment starts with condition.

Inspect the covers, padding, frame and attachments separately. A stained or torn cover may need recovering; flattened foam may need renewal. Loose or damaged structures need their own assessment. Agree which parts will be retained and which work is included.

Restaurant and hotel furniture renewal.

Hospitality reupholstery can help refresh an interior when the existing furniture still fits the space. Review consistency across rows, rooms or seating groups, and approve a physical material sample.

Reupholster or replace?

Compare the complete scope rather than the cover price alone. Consider frame condition, comfort, dimensions, material availability, transport and any site work. Replacement may make more sense when the structure or layout no longer serves the business; reupholstery is worth assessing when those elements still work.

Plan around your operating hours.

Share the number of seats that can be removed at a time, available access and your operating calendar. Phased collection or site work may be possible depending on location and scope. Confirm service availability and the agreed schedule before planning closures.

Questions from hospitality projects.

What is the difference between recovering and reupholstery?

Recovering usually refers to replacing the outer material. Reupholstery can include deeper work such as renewing padding or addressing the underlying construction. Terminology varies, so the written scope should say exactly what is included.

How much does commercial reupholstery cost?

The estimate depends on furniture quantity, construction, material, cushion condition and the extent of repairs. Send overall and close-up photos, location and dimensions for a useful assessment.

Can existing foam be reused?

Foam should be assessed for condition and comfort. Keeping worn padding under a new cover can leave the original comfort problem unresolved. Confirm what will be renewed in the quote.

Can you match our existing upholstery?

Share a physical sample or product reference if available. Fading and discontinued materials can prevent an exact match. Review a sample and consider renewing a complete seating group for consistency.

Is on-site reupholstery available?

Availability depends on the location, furniture and work required. Share access details and operating hours so the team can assess workshop work, collection or possible site arrangements.

Can we remain open while furniture is being renewed?

A phased plan may be possible when enough seating can be released in batches. Confirm the quantities, return dates and access arrangements before relying on a staged schedule.
