Reupholster or replace restaurant booths?
Use frame condition, cushioning, layout fit and downtime to compare booth repair, reupholstery and replacement.
US BOOTHS / PRACTICAL BUYER GUIDE
At a glance.
Reupholstery is worth evaluating when the structure and layout still suit the room. Replacement deserves review when dimensions, support or the room’s requirements have changed. Compare the condition and total scope before deciding; a fresh cover does not repair a failed frame.

Inspect beyond the visible tear
Photograph the complete booth, underside, base, seams, seat support and damaged areas. Note rocking, soft spots, loose attachments or unusual movement. Stop using unstable seating and have the structure assessed rather than concealing the problem beneath new material.
Choose the smallest complete repair
A localized surface repair, a replacement seat cover, renewed foam and a full rebuild are different jobs. Ask what is retained and what is replaced. Match the proposed repair to the actual failure, not just the most visible damaged panel.
Plan continuity of service
Record how many booths can be released at a time, removal access and the intended return sequence. On-site or phased work must be confirmed for the specific location. Compare transport, disposal and disruption with the new-seating alternative.
Compare the decisions that matter.
| Observed issue | Inspect next | Scope to discuss |
|---|---|---|
| Surface damage | Check cover and substrate | Localized repair or recovering |
| Flat or uneven support | Check foam, springs and attachments | Padding and support review |
| Loose or damaged frame | Assess structure before use | Repair/rebuild or replacement |
| Room no longer works | Review dimensions and circulation | New configuration or replacement |
Questions & answers.
Can you replace only the booth seat upholstery?
That may be appropriate if the back, support and frame are sound. Send photographs and dimensions for review; a seat-only scope should identify whether foam and support repairs are included.
Link to this answerIs reupholstery always cheaper than a new booth?
No. Extensive structural repairs, complex upholstery, access and transport can change the economics. Compare current quotes for equivalent outcomes rather than assuming a fixed saving.
Link to this answerShould I replace flattened booth foam?
Ask the upholsterer to inspect both padding and its support. New fabric over degraded foam or damaged support will not restore the original seating behavior.

Share operating hours and the number of seats that can be removed from service. The team must confirm site work, phasing and return arrangements; uninterrupted service is not guaranteed.
Link to this answerCan you match the existing upholstery?
Provide the original material reference if available. Age, fading, discontinued lines and batch variation can prevent an exact match; approve samples and discuss whether adjacent pieces should be renewed together.

Send the whole seating run, each damaged area, seams, base and underside where safely visible. Include quantities, dimensions, attachment details, location and access restrictions.
